Muslim Hands operates in over 40 countries worldwide, distributing life-saving humanitarian aid and relief to millions of people around the world, who are affected by natural disasters, war, poverty, famine, and drought.

THE ROLE

As we embark on an exciting period of growth and change, we are looking for a professional Communications Officer to play a key role in the Fundraising Department. The successful candidate will work closely with other departments and divisions within the organisation and will provide valuable support to the communication team. As the Communications Officer, you will be responsible for:

· Develop and implement communication strategies to increase the organization's visibility and promote our programs to various stakeholders.

· Create and manage content for the organization's website, social media platforms, newsletters, and other communication channels.

· Develop and implement fundraising campaigns and appeals that resonate with our supporters and encourage donations.

· Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists to secure media coverage of the organization's programs and activities.

· Write and edit press releases, news articles, and other communication materials for both internal and external audiences.

· Develop and manage the organization's brand identity and ensure consistency in messaging across all communication channels.

· Work collaboratively with internal teams to develop engaging stories, photos, and videos that showcase the impact of the organization's programs.

· Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns and make recommendations for improvement.

· Develop and manage a communication calendar that ensures timely and relevant messaging to various stakeholders.

· Respond to inquiries and requests for information from the public, media, and other stakeholders.

Essential skills

  • Experience working in the not-for-profit or government sector.
  • Strategic thinking and long-range planning skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to multitask under pressure.

Desirable

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a marketing environment with a proven, working knowledge of digital marketing and social media ad platforms.
  • Experience in creative ad copywriting.
  • An in-depth knowledge of Google Analytics and Facebook Ads.

Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling stories and messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, including social media, email marketing, and website management.
  • Experience in managing media relations and securing media coverage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of Muslim culture and values.

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: R10,000.00 - R15,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
